About Smart Monkey Imports Celadonia Wares Smart Monkey Imports is proud to debut our Celadonia line of fine, authentic Celadon wares. Our distinct line of specialty ceramic ware is produced with natural earthen materials to create the naturally shaded jade colored glazes. Most importantly, Celadonia wares have been independent laboratory tested to be "UNLEADED"! Each piece is truly a unique work of art, no two pieces are identical. Pieces that do not pass our Master Ceramist’s quality guidelines and craftsmanship are destroyed. This crafting process is traditional and intense yet creates for beautiful wares that are microwave and even dishwasher safe. Celadonia wares have great heat retaining properties resulting from the 2 kiln firings. Even so, please do be careful with these handcrafted wares! |

| Smart Monkey Imports’ line of wares were designed/developed with one of China's renowned Master Celadon Ceramist. Ancient Chinese celadon glazed ceramics were created from before China's Tang Dynasty (618-906 AD). Chinese Celadon has been long studied for its natural elements so as to reproduce but even to this date remains unique. Unfortunately for consumers, the various shades of Celadon's greens and blues are most often time replicated with lead based glazes and colorings. The natural properties of Chinese Celadon earthen materials unique and allow for the wonderful colorings and heat retaining properties resulting from 2 high heat firings. The skills of our Master Ceramist also provide one with an opportunity to experience artisan creativity paired with the practical use of his pieces. Ancient, raw earthen clays are first excavated and filtered with water to produce firm blocks of a finer clay. This fine clay is then manipulated into various consistencies to allow for the various Celadon pieces to be created. |

One method for creation of Celadonia wares involves the use of a spinning molder, in which the skills of the celadon artisan become critical to ensure consistency and quality in the final piece.
A second tool used to create our wares involves Celadonia’s Master Celadon Ceramist hand designing, sculpting and crafting molds in which a liquid form of the clay is poured into. The pieces take shape once the water leaves behind a clay shell that awaits hand finishing prior to its initial firing. |

| All our newly formed wares are allowed to dry before further hand finishing, trimming, embossing and intricate detailing. During this entire process, great attention to detail is critical in order to create final approved pieces. . | ||

Once dried and finished, the wares are hand placed into kilns for an initial 4 hour firing at approximately 1500 degrees F. After cooling from the initial firing, the wares are coated with their naturally unique Celadon glazes and again fired in the kiln. This final firing lasts about 13 hours at not less than 2350 degrees F. This extremely high firing causes the clay to become very dense, forcing out air pockets. The magnificent Chinese celadon glaze clays melt and react to the firing so that the pieces take on their wonderful shades of green, showing off their permanent glossy surfaces. | |
